Project Story

How this mold project was developed and delivered

A Michigan-based automotive aftermarket parts company needed custom injection molds for a new line of LED tail light housings. The project required optical-grade mold surfaces, precise assembly interfaces between lens and housing components, and molds that could run reliably in their US production facility.

Shengqi handled the complete project from drawing review through mold design, machining, trial molding, sample approval and export delivery. Remote communication with the client's engineering team was maintained throughout the DFM review and sample approval stages.

The molds were shipped via sea freight with full export documentation, wooden crate packing and installation guidance. The client has since placed follow-up orders for additional lamp component molds.

Engineering & Export Focus

Key points addressed during the project

SAE/DOT Optical Standards

US automotive lighting must meet SAE/DOT photometric requirements. Mold cavity polishing to optical grade and controlled gate position away from photometric zones were critical quality points.

Remote Engineering Collaboration

DFM review, mold flow analysis and sample inspection were coordinated via video calls and shared documentation with the client's Michigan engineering team across a 12-hour time difference.

US-Compliant Export Preparation

All mold components were cleaned, protected and packed to US import standards. Documentation package included full material certifications, dimensional inspection reports and mold maintenance manuals.

Production Integration Support

Shengqi provided mold setup parameters, recommended processing windows and troubleshooting guidance to help the client's US production team achieve stable molding from day one.
